St. Lawrence County inmate charged with having drugs in jail

CANTON -- An inmate at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility has been charged with a felony count of possessing a narcotic in jail.

Russel F. Dendler, 25, is charged with first-degree promotion of prison contraband, a Class D felony, for possessing Subutex, a medication approved for the treatment of opioid dependence.

At his arraignment before Canton Town Justice Cathleen O'Horo, Dendler was ordered to be held without bail due to two previous felony convictions.

More charges could be filed, according to the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office.
