POTSDAM -- A Potsdam man was jailed Monday following a reported domestic dispute in which he strangled and punched his live-in girlfriend, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies.
Steven Amador, 22, 92 State Highway 345 Apt. 2, was charged at 8:05 p.m. with first-degree aggravated criminal contempt, felony, third-degree assault, and obstruction of breathing, officers said.
Deputies allege Amador forcer his girlfriend to the ground and strangled her and struck her in the face causing an injury.
The victim currently holds a no harass order of protection against Amador which he violated by subjecting her to unwanted physical contact, deputies said.
He was arraigned in Pierrepont Town Court by Judge Camp and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $1,000 bail, officers said.
A new stay away order of protection was issued in favor of the victim, deputies said.
Deputies said they were assisted on scene by the Potsdam Village Police Department.
