Potsdam man charged with DWI

POTSDAM -- A Potsdam man was charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday morning on Hamilton Street, according to Potsdam police.

Chad M. Carista, 36, was charged with first-offense DWI, possession of open container and a no seat belt violation at 2:01 a.m., officers said.

Carista was observed driving with no seat belt on Elm Street and during a traffic stop officers detected the odor of consumed alcohol coming from Carista, police said.

He allegedly failed a series of field sobriety tests and was transported to the Potsdam police station where his blood-alcohol content (BAC) was determined to be . 14 percent.

Carista was released on tickets returnable to Potsdam court Jan. 10.
