Police: Canton man charged after leaving child inside parked vehicle for 'significant amount of time'

POTSDAM — A Canton man was arrested after allegedly leaving a child unattended in a vehicle for a significant amount of time, according to Potsdam police.

Police received a report from a business on Market Street about a male subject who was behaving suspiciously inside the store.

Officers discovered that David A. Ashlaw, 37, has left a child unattended inside a parked vehicle in the business parking lot for an extended period of time.

Ashlaw was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, officers said.

Police took Ashlaw into custody and he was found to be on parole and a parole warrant was issued, police said.

Ashlaw was then transported to St. Lawrence County Jail.
