MADRID -- A Madrid man was charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated Saturday after being injured in an accident with injuries behind the town barns.
Dale Champion, 52, 3184 County Route 14, was charged after police deputies responded to a reported the snowmobile accident at 10:39 p.m., according to St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies.
Deputies responded to the accident, which occurred behind the town barns, and found Champion complaining of internal injuries, deputies said.
According to deputies, Champion said that he was crossing the field between the town barns and the Jones Road at a high rate of speed when he struck some debris and was thrown from his snowmobile.
Deputies determined that Champion had consumed an alcoholic beverage and charged him with snowmobiling while intoxicated. More tickets are pending, according to deputies.
Madrid fire, rescue and first responders also responded to the scene.
