POTSDAM -- Sheriff deputies say they charged a Madrid man with driving while intoxicated and several other offenses after hitting a utility pole on River Road and leaving the scene.
Deputies said Gregory C. Pierce, 40, lost control of his 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck, exited the right shoulder and hit the pole around 8:47 p.m.
He was located a short time later in the village, deputies said. He was charged with DWI, speed not reasonable and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, police said.
Deputies said he refused a chemical test, was arraigned in Potsdam Town Court and released with orders to re-appear on a later date.
