POTSDAM – Richard E. Partch, senior university professor of chemistry at Clarkson University, has received the 2010 American Chemical Society (ACS) E. Ann Nalley Northeast Region Award for Volunteer Service.
Partch has been a member of the ACS for 47 years. Partch has made many volunteer contributions in his field on the local, regional and national levels.
Since arriving in Potsdam in 1965, he has been an active visitor to local schools. As a result of this he has had the opportunity to meet almost every high school chemistry teacher in the Northern New York region.
He has held a variety of positions within ACS and most recently served as councilor for the Northern New York section.
Partch has enjoyed a successful and internationally recognized career in the field of particle synthesis and surface modification.
His reputation is widespread in industrial sectors, and he has been recognized as a fellowship recipient by the National Academy of Science and the Rotary Foundation Scientific Exchange.
He holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Rochester.
