WIC makes changes to appointment protocol in St. Lawrence County

To the Editor:

I would like to offer a brief explanation of the WIC program and how we work, to help you understand the important role that you play in our success.

WIC is a supplemental food program helping women, infants and children. We travel throughout St. Lawrence County to seven different towns, bringing with us nutritional education materials and food vouchers for our clients. Our goal is to promote better nutritional health in pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, as well as infants and children under the age of five.

Many of our clients are working or attending college and find it difficult to attend certain clinics. For example, if an expecting mother lives in Massena, but works in Potsdam, she would benefit from the Potsdam clinic as she is there during working hours. By making our clients aware of the different locations and dates that we are there we will be able to help more people keep their WIC clinics.

We are asking local newspapers and radio stations to advertise all of our WIC clinics, including the ones located in and outside of your area. This will help remind clients of their WIC appointments and help us continue to serve the people of the North Country as efficiently as possible.

The Community Health Center of the North Country would like to thank all those involved for their continued support in publishing our calendar and helping the WIC program to be a success.
