Why are school budgets so hard to manage?

Dear Superintendent and Administrators:

I am writing this letter as a concerned citizen of the Potsdam School District. Shame on you!

I am trying to figure out why the school budget is so hard to manage. Coming from my house to Route 11, which is only three miles, there are 24 houses. This is approximately $43,200 in taxes. That is only a small area and parts of two roads.

How come you don’t have enough money to pay everyone? Why are you cutting teaching positions?

I feel it is very important for our children to learn. I may not have any children in school, but I realize how important it is for them to learn. I also realize how important it is for sports, music and arts. If some students did not have these they would not be in school.

I am wondering if what I hear that superintendents get $500 a day is true, How come they don’t take a cut in pay. I don’t feel anyone is worth $110,000 a year.

Please review your budget again and make adjustments that do not affect children in any way as this is what your job actually is supposed to pertain to.

The past few days I have heard concerns over the cost of health care going up. I feel that the teachers should absorb the cost. That is what we have to do in our job when health care costs go up. Why should it be any different with teachers?

All concerned taxpayers need to have their voice heard. Please let the Superintendent and Administrators know how you feel. Why should we as taxpayers have to keep supporting there high wages and letting our children lose many important aspects our school system can provide.

Potsdam
