To the Editor:

First, we would like to acknowledge the hard work and professionalism of the employees who work at the area nursing homes.

That being said, our mother, Janet M. Carey, became too ill to care for herself approximately three years ago, and it became necessary to find 24-hour care.

For whatever reason, our mother refused the idea of a nursing home, and we began our search for a private adult home that cold provide the level of care our mother required.

Our search ended when we met Karen Whitford who owns and operates an adult home in the town of Russell.

Fortunately for us, Karen had room for Mother, and we began the process of moving her in.

The day we took Mother to Karen’s was a very difficult/emotional day for all of us, especially Mother.

When we arrived at Karen’s, Mother was greeted by Karen, who hugged and kissed her as if she had known her all her life.

In the coming weeks, Karen, her husband Rick (Bear), her staff, and members of her family, made our mother feel as if she was “home” and not in an “adult home.”

Mother’s family and friends were always welcome at Karen’s, day or night. Mother lived at the Whitford home for approximately three years before she passed away on April 30 at 3:45 a.m. with Karen sitting at her bedside.

Thank you Karen Whitford. We are glad we found you.
