‘We the People’ need to prove ourselves worthy, says Brasher Falls man

To the Editor:

In the fall of 1964 I took a course titled American Government 101. The course was taught by extension from South West Texas State Teacher’s College on Bergstrom Air Force Base just a bit east of Austin, Texas (now the Austin International Airport.) I was a member of the Strategic Air Command at the time.

The last evening of that course was the evening before the 1964 presidential election. The course brought us face to face with the realities of liberty as well as the history of liberty through the ages and how the American version of liberty was established and would be, hopefully, maintained. Such documents as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were studied closely.

During the last hour of that last evening, the professor gave us a lecture about his thoughts on how liberty would end in America. A mere 50 years later a lot of what he said has spookily come to pass.

I don’t remember the lecture word for word, but these are some of the highlights he said would signal the end times of American liberty. He said to watch for attacks on the Constitution and especially the Bill Of Rights. He said to watch for an attack on the rule of law. Watch for attacks on the family unit. He stated that the family is the basic building block of society. Destroying the family goes far toward the goal of destroying a society. He said to watch for concerted attacks on Christianity. He said that a belief in God is a belief in yourself and a belief in yourself is a belief in God. Belief in self or God is a huge obstacle to implementing a despotic government.

After the lecture, I went downtown onto Congress Ave to LBJ’s last political rally. The next morning I climbed onto a B-52D loaded with H-bombs and flew off on airborne alert.

This is a reader participation letter. Can you find examples of what that old professor said to watch for happening in America today? Can you list names of people who are making these things happen?

It is time for “We The People” to prove ourselves worthy of our founders and the legions who have fought, bled and died for American Liberty by organizing to save it.
