Waterfront flooding complaint is justified, says Norwood man

To the Editor:

In response to “River Management Might Have Saved Your Camp” which ran in the July 1 issue of North Country This Week: seven inches of rainfall within 4 days is a lot of water. The letter was in response to a Sound Off “Waterfront Flooding” which appeared in the June 25 issue of North Country This Week.

I am at a loss as to how this writer is unknowledgeable and why the letter attacking the writer was even published. I thought somewhere I read that North Country This Week would not publish articles that attacked other people. I guess I was wrong.

In the Sound Off “Waterfront Flooding,” the writer indicated that he had to remove his boat, docks where flooded, the river was dangerous, his property taxes were just reassessed at a higher assessment and he felt that he was not getting the enjoyment from the Raquette River that he should be getting. So he indicated that maybe the river could be managed a little better. All facts that can be verified and everyone is entitled to an opinion.

So speaking of knowledgeable, is June 12 really the middle of the spring run-off? My understanding was that because of the dry spring Brookfield topped off the ponds in anticipation of a dry summer. Mother Nature decided different however and gave us one of the wettest months of June in quite a while. And when did management have anything to do with professionalism.

Finally, my little spot on the Raquette has also been flooded since June 12. I was just finally able to get back onto it July 7 to mow it.

I figure it will be a couple more days before the ground is dry enough so I can put in my dock, raft, and boats in. And my opinion about dealing with Brookfield personnel; well let’s just say I am not a happy camper.
