To the Editor:
This August, Reality Check youth from Hammond Central School attending a 3-day training at the Waddington Beach.
The training was led by Greg Mintz, owner of Off The Grid Guide Services.
Youth learned skills in team building, water safety, and leadership. Youth included Jessica Brown, Dawson Simmons, Hannah Preston, and Dana Burns.
The highlight of the training came when the youth were able to educate Mintz on the benefits of tobacco-free outdoors policies.
Tobacco-free policies help to protect the environment, decrease liter, and promote a healthier community. As a result of the youths’ educational efforts Mintz has decided to adopt a tobacco-free policy for Waddington Beach.
This new policy will go a long way to protecting local wildlife and fish from the ingestion of toxic cigarette butts.
