To the Editor:
The governor-appointed St. Lawrence County clerk fired Mary Lou Rupp, acting county clerk, who has 23 years of business experience, 5 ½ years working in the DMV and 2 ½ years in the county clerk’s office. An experienced business person would have kept the qualified, experienced acting county clerk until he at least could learn a few of the forms, techniques and required duties he is expected to perform.
The St. Lawrence County Clerk’s office initiated a plan to increase the revenue for our county. The dedicated DMV clerks willingly did the extra work for the benefit of the county taxpayers. The new appointed county clerk will need much training in the clerk’s office, plus the department of motor vehicles. Training takes time. Time is money, especially since the influx of extra money requires a 24-hour turnaround.
In November, St. Lawrence County people will vote in the most capable county clerk: Mary Lou Rupp.
