To the Editor:
This year’s elections will give voters who live in the Township of Pierrepont a chance to bring a few new faces into their town government, and in my view that would be a good a thing.
So if you live in the township of Pierrepont (which stretches all the way from Clare and Russell to Potsdam, and includes Hannawa Falls) I urge you to vote come November.
I myself am going to vote for Bill Mein for Town Council and for Tom Latimer as Town Supervisor.
I will vote for Bill Mein for several reasons: He just retired and thus will have plenty of time to serve. Also he plans, if elected, to create a web site for the Town, and that’s something that we badly need.
Another plus is that he lives in Hannawa Falls which, even though it contains about half of the Town’s population, has not has a representative on the Council in recent memory (for the record, for 21 years I have lived on the opposite end of the township, near Russell).
And, finally, Mein speaks realistically about the town’s budget challenges and still has ideas about how the Town could cut costs.
I also have reasons for choosing Tom Latimer.
First, he is not part of the circle of friends who have long controlled Town government. Please don’t misunderstand me; I appreciate the dedication of all who have served; I just think it’s time for some new voices and ideas to get heard.
Also Latimer has experience on the Council, so he knows his way around. And, finally, he’s a down to earth, nice person who is very committed to the Town.
