Vote for abilities and expertise for legislature

To the Editor:

In the upcoming election this November along with Governor and Congressman the voters in St. Lawrence Co. will also be asked to elect a candidate to represent them in the County Legislature.

The voters in the Town of Stockholm along with election districts 4 & 7 in the town of Potsdam will need to choose between Ryan Warr and Chad Colbert. Given what I have seen of other races around the County these voters are fortunate to have two good candidates to choose from.

Ryan is a young, well-intentioned candidate who would like to bring younger people and ideas into local politics. He has been involved in local youth sports and is well known and liked.

Chad is approximately 7 years older and has been involved in local government as a financial advisor as well as a member of various advisory committees. He is not as well-known but his area of expertise being financial is one that is not as public.

I have been following the unfolding financial drama that has occurred over the last few years in the County Government and its fallout on the taxpayers in the form of land taxes. Anyone who owns a home, farm, business, or land is well aware of this.

It is too bad we can’t have both of these people elected. Unfortunately they are from the same district. However, if you weigh the current financial crisis that is afflicting our County, I believe Mr. Colbert is the best candidate to be sent to Canton. He is, in my opinion, the most experienced of the two candidates in both knowledge of how the legislature works, is aware of the problems it is facing, and has the ability to address and rectify those problems.

As I stated earlier it is too bad both can’t be elected. At other times, or with some other opponent I would be inclined to vote for Mr. Warr. Unfortunately I don’t feel this is one of those times. We need someone of Mr. Colbert’s abilities and expertise in the Legislature now.
