Tour de Potsdam raises over $3,000

To the Editor:

Recently, St. Lawrence County Community Development Program, CDP, adopted the Tour de Potsdam and hosted the 5K walk/run.

It was a successful event despite the forecast of thunder and lightning thanks to our volunteers and supporters.

Our major supporter was Canton-Potsdam Hospital/St. Lawrence Health System. Other community support came from local businesses including Dan's Plumbing and Heating, SA Mazzotta, MD, Great Northern Printing, Community Bank, Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, St. Lawrence Supply, Potsdam Food Co-op, Evans and White Hardware , KLEANBLINDS, Inlay Studio, NCOC, Collegiate Village of Potsdam, Bronson's Heating and Plumbing/ Roto Rooter, 1844 House and Fiercely Fit with Lauren Smith. Also, Pepsi of Ogdensburg provided the start/finish line for the event along with water and Gatorade for the walkers and runners. Kinney's supplied water for the walkers and runners. Larry LaMere and daughter Lilly along with Scott Hough, his wife Michelle and daughter Danielle all lent their expertise in timing and recording the times of the participants. We also appreciate the assistance of the Village of Potsdam, Potsdam Police Department, Potsdam Rescue, Potsdam Recreation, Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Potsdam Central School.

Many thanks to Carol Zimmerman who coached us on how to run the event and the St. Lawrence Health Initiative for use of their equipment.

CDP is particularly grateful to all those who participated in the 5K and were patient with us as we learned how the event should unfold.

The volunteers and fund raising committee are looking forward to the Tour de Potsdam next year and are already making plans for next year.

CDP is pleased to report that over $3,000 was raised. The money will be used to support the programs we offer in serving the families with low-incomes in the county. Those programs include Weatherization, the Neighborhood Centers throughout the county, Housing Choice Voucher Program (rental assistance) and Head Start.

Many thanks to all who made this a successful fundraiser.

Norma Cary, CDP Executive Director and Deborah Chase-Lauther, Fundraising Committee Chair
