Tour de Potsdam nets $3,000 for St. Lawrence County Community Development Program

To the Editor:

St. Lawrence County Community Development Program (CDP) hosted the 17th annual Tour de Potsdam 5K run/walk on Thursday, July 12 in conjunction with Potsdam’s Summer Festival. This year over 100 runners and walkers of all ages participated.

Over $3,000 was raised to support the programs CDP offers to families with low-incomes throughout the county. These programs include weatherization, six Neighborhood Centers, Housing Choice Voucher Program (rental assistance), and Head Start.

The top three overall winners this year were Aiden Hearne, running the race in 17:36; Josh Akins, coming in second at 18:22; and Chad Colbert, finishing in third at 19:24. Thank you to all the runners and walkers who participated. We appreciate your support.

Canton-Potsdam Hospital/St. Lawrence Health System was a major supporter of the event again this year. Other local businesses assisted by sponsoring the event. This year’s sponsors were Dan’s Plumbing and Heating, Frazer Computing, Great Northern Printing, Community Bank, Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, St. Lawrence Supply, Potsdam Food Co-Op, KLEANBLINDS, NCOC, Collegiate Village of Potsdam, Bronson’s Heating and Plumbing/Roto Rooter, Gray and Gray CPA’s, and Sommer Energy LLC. 4FRunning, a new business opening on Market Street in Potsdam in August, sponsored the event and assisted with timing the runners. Pepsi of Ogdensburg generously provided the start/finish line for the event along with water and Gatorade for walkers, runners, and volunteers. Great Northern Printing designed the shirts. Mike’s Trophies assisted with the winner’s medals.

We appreciate the assistance of the Village of Potsdam, Potsdam Police Department, Potsdam Rescue, Potsdam Recreation, Potsdam Chamber of Commerce, and Potsdam Central School in running the event. The St. Lawrence Health Initiative allowed us to use their equipment and assisted with the set up. Thank you to the volunteers who helped to plan the walk/run and also worked the evening of the event.
