Tour de Potsdam 5K raises nearly $3,000for St. Lawrence County Community Development Program

To the Editor:

St. Lawrence County Community Development Program, CDP hosted the Tour de Potsdam 5K walk/run for the second year.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for those participating.

Canton-Potsdam Hospital/St. Lawrence Health System was a major supporter as they have been in previous years. Other community support came from local businesses. Dan's Plumbing and Heating, SA Mazzotta, MD, Great Northern Printing, Community Bank, Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, St. Lawrence Supply, Potsdam Food Co-op, KLEANBLINDS, Inlay Design Studio, NCOC, Collegiate Village of Potsdam, Bronson's Heating and Plumbing/Roto Rooter, Potsdam Presbyterian Church and Sommer Energy LLC were all sponsors.

Pepsi of Ogdensburg once again generously provided the start/finish line for the event along with water and Gatorade for the walkers and runners. Great Northern printing designed the shirts once again using a new color scheme this year.

We also appreciate the assistance of the Village of Potsdam, Potsdam Police Department, Potsdam Rescue, Potsdam Recreation, Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Potsdam Central School in running the event.

The St. Lawrence Health Initiative allowed us to use their equipment and assisted with the set up. CDP is particularly grateful to all those who participated in the 5K.

We enjoyed seeing the returning participants and meeting some new walkers/runners.

Many thanks to the volunteers who helped plan the walk/run and also worked the evening of the event. The volunteers and fund raising committee are looking forward to the Tour de Potsdam next year and are already making plans for 2018.

CDP is pleased to report that just under $3,000 was raised. The money will be used to support the programs CDP offers to the families with low-incomes in the county.

Those programs include Weatherization, the Neighborhood Centers throughout the county, Housing Choice Voucher Program (rental assistance) and Head Start.

Many thanks to all who made this a successful fundraiser.
