To the Editor:

Joe Timmerman is the right candidate for District 10, St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators.

Joe Timmerman possesses the integrity, passion, and finance skills needed to get St. Lawrence County back on track financially and I believe the citizens of District 10 will greatly benefit by electing this worthy candidate.

I’ve known Joe for five years and can speak from personal experience regarding his strong moral character, his passion for teaching finance, and his in-depth knowledge and experience in the finance field. As a former resident of District 10, I would be proud to vote for Joe Timmerman.

Among other courses at SUNY Potsdam, Joe teaches Finance, Investment & Portfolio Analysis, and Financial Statement Analysis, emphasizing practical application and both personal and professional financial responsibility to his students. Joe articulates vital finance principles such as: the time value of money and the power of compounding interest; using financial ratios to determine the financial condition of an organization; understanding the risk and return for investments; calculating the cost of capital; and making sound capital investment decisions using net present value (NPV).

All of these finance principles are critical for St. Lawrence County in order to regain financial stability. Joe Timmerman will bring these needed financial skills to the table as a county legislator.

In the classroom, Joe has earned a reputation for being tough and fair. He shares his professional experiences as a banker and life lessons to students in order to underscore the importance of personal and professional financial responsibility, integrity, and doing the right thing for stakeholders.

Not only is he an excellent instructor, but he is passionate about inspiring students to take to heart the lessons presented so they are able to make smart financial decisions in business and in life. He is one of the most honest, sincere, and down-to-earth professors I’ve ever met and is definitely one of the best teachers I’ve ever had.

As my finance professor, role model, and friend, Joe continues to be a true inspiration to me and I am confident his leadership in the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators will make a huge impact for the better. The citizens of District 10 are very fortunate to have him as he will serve the county well.
