To the Editor:

As a resident of the “Village,” I am ready for dissolution.

I am tired of businesses trying to build on the edge of town. I am tired of friends moving to the edge of town to avoid the “village taxes.” I am tired of the town trying to use our services to attract new businesses.

This conflict must stop. The municipalities have sued each other to no avail, and the taxpayers suffer.

We are in this together. We must not allow the town to leverage our assets and resources without sharing the financial burden.

The 30% of property owners on the tax roll that pay to keep this area afloat must be relieved.

Dissolution will allow us to be stronger as a united force.

We can keep the services we want post dissolution. It is we, the community, who will decide what is important as we rebuild.

We will have a fair tax base where everyone pays to support the big institutions that make this area successful while so many neighbors suffer economic woes.

Dissolution will attract more newcomers to the village, no longer running for the town to save money.

It will keep business near our core business district no longer forcing sprawl to escape the village limits. This will enhance the small town experience that we love.

It is likely our home values will increase once the village is dissolved and the tax base increased leveling the playing field with town properties.

It is time to do what is best for this community. We must eliminate the extra layer of government.

We can and will rebuild a Town of Potsdam that is better for everyone.

Do not listen to the fear mongers, this has been done elsewhere and created better, more efficient governments.

This is the only way to get everyone on one team! We need to stop thinking as town and village and start thinking as a community.

Sorry Town of Potsdam, it is time for you to share the burden.

Come November vote YES to dissolution.
