To the Editor:
On behalf of the board members, staff, volunteers and particularly the animals at the Potsdam Humane Society, I would like to thank everyone who opened their hearts this holiday season to donate to the shelter. We received food, toys, treats, collars, leashes, bowls, litter, laundry detergent, bleach, paper towels, toilet paper, brooms, medical supplies, a dog crate, pet beds and gifts of money. All of the gifts will assist us in our mission of finding homes for every adoptable animal that enters our doors.
We are very grateful for the donations from some of the youngest members of our community, particularly the students from St. Lawrence Avenue Elementary School. The students from Mrs. Lalonde’s first grade, Mrs. Cunningham’s second grade and Mrs. Butler-Dagget’s fourth grade classes are all to be thanked for thinking of the less fortunate animals in our community who cannot speak for themselves. These Santa’s helpers helped to make Christmas a real season of giving!
The SUNY Canton Veterinary Technician Club, the Potsdam Agway, the Canton Senior Citizens Club and the many other groups and individuals who took the time to think of others outside of their immediate families are glittering points of light in our St. Lawrence County community.
I reiterate my thanks and hope that people will stop in to the shelter on Madrid Avenue and see our wonderful facility that you helped to build, to visit with our Executive Director Alysia Maynard and the rest of our devoted staff and volunteers, and to see the dogs, cats, ferrets and the pot belly big that are waiting to find good, loving homes.
