To the Editor:

On Friday, April 30, we had the privilege of honoring Con Elliott for his dedication to the North Country community. We would like to thank those who helped to make this wonderful program such a success.

First of all, thanks to all of you who donated funds; thanks to our great community we raised our goal amount very quickly. Also, thanks to the Potsdam Board of Education, for giving our recognition initial approval and then approving the changes we later requested.

Special thanks to Ed and Judy Fuhr of Potsdam Stone and Concrete, for donating the beautiful piece of sandstone; and to Gary Collins and G & C Trucking and Crane Service for delivering and setting the stone and for putting up the bracket for the press box sign. The plaque has been affixed to the sandstone, and it makes a really nice tribute to Con at the entrance to the multi-purpose field; thanks also to Milt Snell for kindly donating his service and hydro seeding around the sandstone.

Thank you to Carl Normandin for the lovely plaque from Section X, and our apologies to Section X and the Potsdam and Colton-Pierrepont lacrosse teams for interrupting the game.

The tribute at the field was done beautifully, thanks to Mark Wilson and George Gordon. Thanks also to WPDM, for the great coverage of the event on the radio.

Thanks to Bob Brothers and his staff and to Chef Dave Gravlin for all of their patience and hard work. You all went above and beyond for Con, and helped to make the occasion run without a hitch.

Thanks to our speakers, masters of ceremonies Bobby Sharlow, Pat Brady, Jerry Manor and John Shatraw, for giving us so many laughs and a peek into the Con of yesteryear. Who knew? And to Howard Jennings III, for writing and performing such a moving tribute to his “Uncle Con.” It can be heard throughout the day on WPDM. Thanks also to Howard Jennings Jr. and Louise Elliott for all of the photos and memorabilia that they loaned us.

Kanika Misra and Brenna Rice did a great job of interviewing community members and Con, and then editing the results to fit our timelines. Thanks for a job well done. Chris Baxter, Rob Best and Gail Baxter put together a great slideshow, and John Jadlos and Ben Aldrich did an excellent job with the technology portion of the program.

Thank you to Anne Clarkson and Mike Crosley at Northeastern Sign, for their generosity in discounting the sign, and to Mort Backus and Sons, for the beautiful floral arrangement.

Thanks to all who took the time to attend the tribute. It speaks volumes about the type of person Con is that so many came out to wish him well.

Thank you to all of the others who helped us to set up and loaned us whatever we asked for; if we have missed anyone, we are deeply sorry. It is amazing that so many people were so kind!

Finally, thanks to Con Elliott for everything you have done. You’re a great friend!
