Teacher: Answer is one-room schoolhouses, says Tupper Lake resident

To the Editor:

As a former educator who appreciates history, I recall that the main reason for the move from one-room schoolhouses to large school districts was the promised financial savings to be realized from “economy of scale.” Look at us now.

We need to seriously consider returning to the focus of one-room schoolhouses, and the “3 Rs” of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Austerity budgets should be enacted, with sports, art, music departments, etc. funded by parents, not taxes.
