To the Editor:
Our school and community might be in danger but there are options. We cannot allow our doors in the high school to be closed in the projected three years. We cannot agree to let this happen to our families and town. Norwood-Norfolk Central School has a lot to offer our students and children of other communities also.
Our facility is immaculate and newly renovated. We have a state-of-the-art track and baseball field. Our students are awesome. Every department is comprised of good, solid people.
The powers that govern us are predicting to close your “business.” More importantly, they are suggesting we send our children miles away from their familiar community. As tax payers and investors in this business, we the people have a say, not just a voice. We are the owners of this business. We elect the representatives to represent our wants and needs.
Our community is full of outstanding people. Norwood-Norfolk Central School can become the hub of this area. We can become the ‘central school.’ We have St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES in our community. Several schools already bus many of their students there. We have the room to grow with our many acres of land and the heart and incentive to do it.
I look forward to these challenging times because it will become apparent how much the people of Norwood-Norfolk Central School love their community. We will not be a ghost town. Our shops and markets will not be empty. Our homes will be valuable.
Dearest community members, it is our time to say what we want and work toward that goal. As shareholders in this business, we have a responsibility to speak out and demand answers. Please attend the next board meeting before the 2011-2012 budget vote in May. The upcoming board meeting regarding the district’s future will be Monday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m.
