To the Editor:
As the Young Adult Specialist at the Canton Free Library, I would like to congratulate Canton Central High School students Sarah Carver, Ansel Shipley, Zachary Woodley-White, Joseph DeJoy, and Hilary Weissbard, who participated in the Canton Free Library’s very first Teen Academic Incentive Program.
Teen library regulars with an overall average of 80 or above were invited to bring their report cards to the library to verify grades. They were treated to free ice cream cones at Morgan’s Ice House. Teen library regulars with an overall average of 90 or above were invited to bring their report cards to the library and were treated to an all-expenses paid dinner together at the Asian Buffet in Canton.
The program was made possible with generous donations from SeaComm Federal Credit Union and St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union. I intend to continue this program through the coming school year, and will remind teen library patrons to keep their grades up and come to our programs! Although food is the best way to get teens’ attention initially, other incentives are under consideration as future rewards.
Thank you to Hugh C. Williams Media Specialist Kelly Wilson for her help in encouraging the students to take part in our Teen Academic Incentive program.
