Thank you for sharing such a wonderful day with the Potsdam Humane Society at the 6th Annual Strut Your Mutt! Funds were raised to aid with animal medical costs to assist PHS in its no-kill mission.

The day kicked off with the 5K Walk with 4 water “Pit Stops”. Over 50 prizes, generously donated by local businesses, were awarded to participants. First prize was award to Susan Kramer, who individually raised a total of $1,250 for the animals!

Over 25 vendors displayed and sold items in the Craft & Vendor show inside the Pine Street Arena. Concessions by Pastimes, pony rides, and face painting for the kids were added to the mix. The arena also hosted the Clarkson & Potsdam Garden Club’s Annual Plant Sale. The Friends of Potsdam Humane Society group (FOPHS) raised funds by hosting a pet photo contest and raffled off baskets donated by community members.

The family and pet friendly day raised $6,500, with more funds still coming in!

“We are extremely great full to all the local businesses and organizations that donated prizes and items for Strut, and of course we could not forget all of our walkers who came out to support PHS, as well as the volunteers who helped make this day possible”, stated Alysia Maynard, PHS Director.

The Strut event raised $1,000 more than last year. Plans are already in the mix for next year's “Strut Your Mutt”, which is always held the first Saturday of May (May 7, 2016).

Missed this year's Strut? You can still Strut a Mutt at PHS. College students make up a large share of volunteers to dog walk. With the kids home for the summer, the shelter has a need for more volunteers. Shelter dogs look forward to a human friend visiting and taking our of their kennels for a while each day.

In order to keep everyone on the "same page", volunteers need to take two, one hour training sessions. Then lets the walks begin-- whenever it is convenient.

Take a dog out in one of the PHS play yards, a walk on the grounds, or off site! Going on a hike? How about taking a buddy along for the day? A dog is waiting for you!

Please contact the Potsdam Shelter (315) 265-3199 or shelter@potsdamhumanesociety.org for more information or to sign up for volunteer class 101.
