Stealing item from grave a sad act

To the Editor:

I would like to thank the person who stole the solar butterfly off my mother’s grave in the Evergreen Cemetery in Canton sometime between Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24.

What a callous act! I hope you’re proud of what you did, in stealing from a woman that gave so much so freely to others all her life.

She worked until the day she passed away, at the age of 87. Not a mean bone in her body. She lived through hard times and wartimes, but never had to steal. She went without many times, just to give to others.

You may have taken it without thinking about what you were doing or as a joke, or maybe you just wanted it. Please give it some thought as to what you did and return it. While walking away with your head held high, knowing you did the right thing in returning it.

If you look on the bottom of it, it’s engraved. This was not an expensive item, but can’t be replaced because they have no more where it was purchased.

It says “From the Brooks to Grandma June.” Yes, a little girl gave in memory of her grandmother. She is one broken hearted little girl.

If you want to cal me at 265-7521, I can come and pick it up with no questions asked.

If it’s not returned, you best hope someone doesn’t let the cat out of the bag as to who took it, because I will prosecute you to the fullest.

Would you really want someone to steal from your mother or grandmother?
