To the Editor:
The Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to thank the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe for their generous donation of a new commercial cooking stove for HAVFD Station 1. The previous stove was approximately 30 years old and was no longer safe to operate.
The Akwesasne Holiday Helpers group approached HAVFD in October and asked to host their upcoming fundraising event at station 1, unfortunately we had to deny their request due to the condition of the stove. The next day SRMT Chief Ron LaFrance contacted HAVFD fire chief Derek Comins and asked what he could do to help, two weeks later a brand new stove was delivered. The new stove has six burners and 2 full size ovens as well as a 24” flat top griddle.
With our new stove now in place and functional we look forward to hosting the Akwesasne Holiday Helpers fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 and we anticipate this new stove to serve HAVFD and the Akwesasne community for the next 30 years.
