To the Editor:
Special Olympics NY – North Country Region Area 27 would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to St. Lawrence University Student Athlete Advisory Committee members and athletic staff.
On Dec. 2, Special Olympic athletes participated in a fun Holiday Track meet hosted by the SLU group. This is the 6th year that they have hosted Special Olympic athletes.
It’s an event local Special Olympic athletes look forward to. It’s a fun way to bridge the Special Olympic Bowling and Winter sport seasons.
Special thanks go to SLU student & Lacrosse player Monica Manning for leading the student volunteers and organizing the event. Appreciation also extends out to SLU athletic staff Franco Bari, John Newman, Kate Curran and Carly Stine who were also instrumental in providing a fun athletic day for Special Olympic athletes. Both SLU and Special Olympic athletes got to share training and competition tips and stories throughout the morning.
This year could not have been so successful without the enthusiastic involvement from SLU Women’s and Men’s Lacrosse and Track Teams. Also contributing were members from Women and Men’s Soccer, Women’s Field Hockey, Men’s Baseball, Tennis & Hockey teams.
Special Olympics - North Country Region is real fortunate to have this local university support.
