The Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience concert on August 27 at the Norwood Village Green was an unforgettable evening!

Our community clearly demonstrated love for the music, the Norwood Village Green Concert Series, and Potsdam native Josh Lazo!

Audience member Fran Morton says it all, “It was a magical night, lovely weather, full moon peeking out behind clouds. Such energy! Terrance so energized, tossing beads, smiling, singing. Soon everyone was dancing, laughing, and singing. Thank you. A night to remember.”

The NVG Concert Series decided to extend their season in order to spotlight Potsdam native, Josh Lazo, newest member of this band. Because this concert was an add-on there was no budget to support it. I am happy to tell you that we met our pre-concert goal of $3,100, plus an additional $300 that will go to the Norwood Village Green to cover their costs for this event. Contributions came from 70 contributors!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by or sent a check to help make this a reality. Social media and the local media were incredibly supportive of this event with stories and photos popping up both in print and online.

Here is a list of contributors. Our gold sponsors were the St. Lawrence Health System, Frannie Morton and David Brown, McFadden, Dier, & Leonard Insurance Co., and Pat Collins Real Estate.

Silver sponsors were Jill and Tim Savage, the Vasher-Dean Family, Frazer Computing, Nancy and Phil Foisy, Carlene Baffaro, Fran and Robert Moore and Maggie and Matt McKenna, Debbie Nikkari and Robert Shepherd, Julie and Steve Manders, Liliana Trevizan and Oscar Sarmiento, What a Raquette Music and Dance, Jean and Jim Benvenuto, and Kathy and Peter Wyckoff.

Our bronze sponsors included North Country Neighbors, Maureen and Steve Farina, Holly Chambers, Jeanna Matthews, Jan Wightman, Barb Burdick Claire Babich, Teresa Corbin, Abby and Mark Lee, Carol Webster, Debbie Nikkari, Jody Wallace and Phen Canner, Demilt and Denise Aitken, Betty Peckham, Mike Weil, Hugo Attemann and Andrea Ferro, Laura Gibson, Ruth Merrill, Sally McElhearn, Mary Jo Whalen, Lynn Hall and Kevin Smith, Tom Baker, Heather Planty, Par Maurer, Chris Vangellow, Brittany LaPage, Crystal Cary, Matt Warren, David Fenton, Jake Cole Melanie Gray, Josh Clark, Derek Maus, Barbara and Jack Klemens, Teece, Rosemary Philips, Heather and Dan Sullivan-Catlin, Susan Nolde and David Filsinger, Jill Rubio, Marianne Hebert, Mike Owen, Megan Smith, Kimber Petrie, Annegret Staiger, Rose Rivezzi and David Trithart and Jess Lucas, Peggy and Dick Mooers, Pat and Dave Lennox, Carolyn Leavitt, Heather and Adam Wheeler, and several anonymous contributors.

Heartfelt thanks to Joe Liotta of the Norwood Village Green Concert Series for making this concert a reality. Joe, Andy Van Duyne, and their competent support crew worked together to create a joyful evening for the rest of us.

Big thanks to everyone who took up the challenge to “break the bucket”. We came pretty close! The tally from the night of the concert is $2,923.72, the second highest in the series history! (The 2014 appearance of the Gibson Brothers still remains 1st at $3,324. And contributions continue to come in!

Attendance-wise it has overtaken the Gibson Brothers 2014 total of 3,750 because Joe’s estimated attendance for Terrance Simien was 3,875. It has taken over 2nd place in attendance. The record stands at 5,000 and will never be surpassed. It was for The Family Brown, a concert given on the Norwood Village Green before there was a playground. There is less room now.

Once again, what a wonderful way to show support for this bonus concert with Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience, the Norwood Village Green Concert Series, and Josh!

Thank you all! I hope we can do it again sometime!
