Sick Massena man amazed at support of community

To the Editor:

On the eve of my trip to Roswell Park for my bone marrow transplant, I wanted to say thanks to Massena and Northern New York in general and to the following people for assisting my family.

In the last few months I have been fortunate enough to benefit from two wonderful fundraisers at the Massena Moose Lodge. The first on 3/28 was a 32-team washer board tourney and then on 4/25, a 48 team co-ed dart tourney. Both events were overwhelmingly successful, with everyone involved having a great time. The support of the participants was wonderful.

But, that’s not the half of it. It was also supported by a large group of businesses and friends that donated to our raffle, washer board and dart tourney and 50/50 winners who gave back their winning prizes and people who bought tickets for the raffles.

Thanks go to the Moose Lodge family for their unending support. You have been great friends and so generous to us!

Thank you to my pal Dave Cappione and the rest of his family and my friends at AS Cappione’s, the gifts of the golf bags, clothing and the kayak were some of the most cherished items in the raffle. I am so fortunate to have you on my side.

Finally, a special thank you to my wife Samantha and our dear friend Deb Croft for organizing the events and raffles.

To my sons, AJ for organizing the tourneys and kayak raffle and Jake for assisting on all of it. Also, to the boys girlfriends, Nicole and Natalie for being so generous helping with everything. Both our families did so much work at both raffles and all we can say is we love you all.

I have lived my whole life in Massena and have been so amazed at how much love and support I have felt after these two events and from the letters that I have received from the community in general. I am humbled at seeing how children I once coached, now young adults, their parents and grandparents, my old sports teammates, classmates, family and friends have come out of the woodwork to “have my back.”

Feeling blessed to be from a great community of loving family and dear friends.
