Sick Canton man grateful for care, treatment, support from hospital, community

To the Editor:

My wife and I are writing this letter in an attempt to thank so many people involved in my care and treatment during the past month at Samaritan Medical Center.

When a mass was discovered and later determined to be throat cancer, I was referred to Dr. Angel for a trach and Dr. Kendell for a feeding tube. These doctors and their staff, along with the ER, OR, teams, recovery, ICU, 4th floor staff, all treated me and my wife with the greatest care and concern. They are wonderful people.

Dr. Knowles and staff in Canton have been awesome as a primary care physician.

Then before radiation treatment can begin, I was referred to Dr. Attisha of Watertown for full teeth extractions. He scheduled me into the OR within two days and sacrificed his day off for this procedure.

Upon returning home for a three week recovery before radiation begins, Lincare and Health Services responded immediately with medical supplies and help. My wife’s friends and co-workers at Heuvelton Central School came to us with a donation of food, gift cards and money to help defer travel and medical expenses. Family and friends have all jumped to help financially and emotionally.

Lastly, we would like to express a big thank you to John Whiteford, who helped when our furnace quit working during a very cold period of time.

We can never express enough, our gratitude and thanks for this outpouring of caring and support. All of you are angels to us. Thank you so much.

Greg and Carol Holly
