Services available for addiction disease in North Country

To the Editor,

As the public is aware, we seem to have an ever-increasing problem with drug use and its impact on our community. If we are ever going to combat these problems we need to start realizing that addiction is a disease and that without treatment the disease continues to progress causing society more and more problems.

Approximately, 54 million Americans suffer from mental illness and 26 million from addictions with a significant number living with co-occurring mental illness and addictions.( Source : United States Department of Health and Human Services).

Addressing addiction and mental health issues will improve the quality of life for those who suffer from addiction and their family and friends. Services are available and there are opportunities for treatment.

Treatment works, people recover, and New Yorkers are well worth the investment.
