To the Editor:
This is more of a "human rights" statement. Please spend a minute to read this before discounting it. It's a little lengthy but it needs to be accurate and factual.
Last January a large number of state politicians pushed through legislation without the required three-day debate period and without even reading it, when the governor abused his authority and declared the bill an "emergency," when it absolutely was not emergent.
Many of it's statutes are still not in effect (emergent? not even close). Would you sign a contract without reading it? Would you let your lawyer sign a contract for you without reading it? Then why did our representatives vote for a law without reading it?
This has happened at least a dozen times under Andrew Cuomo. Below are several links to the legislation and the elected officials that bypassed the democratic process to infringe upon your rights. Regardless of how you feel about the SAFE Act, this affects family, friends and neighbors.
And Cuomo continues to abuse his authority by passing legislation in this manner. Will the next abuse of authority and midnight voting strike a little closer to home, or an issue that more directly affects you? We need elected officials that stand up for the democratic process and debate legislation in accordance with our state laws.
Research how your district elected official voted and remember his/her name Nov. 5. If they don't represent you honestly and honorably they need to loose their office. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
