To the Editor:
We were outraged by the ways that this year’s Memorial Day parade in Canton were politicized.
We don’t remember seeing political candidates in past years’ parades, and question whether that’s appropriate.
But what was really disturbing was the inclusion of a float agitating for repeal of the SAFE Act! How does that belong in a procession honoring our fallen heroes?
Whatever anyone’s opinion with regard to NY’s gun laws, the Memorial Day parade is not the place to express them.
In the years ahead, those responsible for organizing this event need to keep the politics out of it.
