To the Editor:
In his letter to the editor, "Route 11 No Longer Serves North Country," Dwayne L. Martin of Gouverneur recently blamed the death of six people this last summer to Route 11.
This is a ridiculous claim exploiting those tragic deaths for the purpose of promoting the Rooftop Highway.
Route 11 had nothing to do with the accident. The weather and road driving conditions were optimal that day.
The driver was entirely at fault for not paying attention. Shame on you, for resorting to such methods, Mr. Martin.
Please prove, if you can, any real benefit the Rooftop highway will provide for the North Country, other than having traffic bypass us as they go from Point A to Point B at 65MPH.
The Rooftop Highway is a solution for a problem that does not exist. Its proponents are only interested in attempting to gain access to Federal money to finance such a boondoggle for their own personal profit - even if it tears up the scenic beauty that attracts visitors and sportsmen in the first place.
