Renewable energy good for St. Lawrence County

To the Editor:

Both past and current events have proven how unstable fossil fuel sources of energy can be.

We all remember when the price of gasoline skyrocketed in 2008, and the drastic effects it had on the economy here in St. Lawrence County and nationwide.

This is why I support, and always have supported, renewable energy sources.

While some may argue that it is nearly impossible to move towards 100 percent renewable energy anytime in the near future.

I believe that increasing the amount of renewable energy produced will only benefit St. Lawrence County.

I was glad to see that the Canton Town Council took a step in the right direction by passing a law that will allow for Wind Mills in certain areas of the town. Currently, several federal grants and subsidies are available to assist financially in the installation of Wind Mills.

As with any other major construction project, the building of wind mills brings job and commerce to the area.

It also provides a source of renewable energy that will be available to local residents.

As your Legislator, I will do all that I can to encourage and assist the development of Wind Mills and other renewable energy projects here in St. Lawrence County.
