Remington Arts planners thank volunteers

To the Editor:

We would like to thank the community, our festival partners - TAUNY, St. Lawrence County Historical Association and St. Lawrence County Arts Council - the town and village of Canton, and our many sponsors for helping us successfully host the 12th annual Remington Arts Festival recently.

Our goal is to put on an event that brings people downtown, educates, and enhances appreciation for the rich culture, heritage, and talent of Canton and the North Country.

A few examples from this weekend illustrate our success: a middle school student actor proudly sharing facts about Frederic Remington when asked about her costume, artisans reporting a good day of sales and pleasant customers, people enthusiastically learning about Remington and why Canton hosts a Remington Arts Festival, new volunteers who have only lived in the community for a year, storefronts filled with people, and visitors declaring “we’ll see you next year!”

The festival committee works year round, and we thank them for all they do for this community: Carol Pynchon, Sue Longshore, Beka Wilkins-Pepiton, Linda Fay, Suna Stone-McMasters, Mike Crowe, Laura Lavoie, Kathy Duffany, and Laura Foster. They all have their contingents of volunteers and we thank them, too.

We would also like to thank the Canton Free Library and Presbyterian Church for use of the church and park for our festival grounds, and St. Lawrence University for Family Weekend marketing and 5k support.

We look forward to seeing you all next year, Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014.
