To the Editor:
Well, we are once again in the midst of what some call the "silly season." Candidates for political office and their supporters try to negate their opponents by sometimes embellishing their arguments to make the other guy look bad.
For example, in the County Clerk's race, Mr. Regan's opponent's supporters are saying that he keeps changing the hours of operation, thereby confusing the public. It is my understanding, however, that it was the County Administrator who changed the hours.
The experience argument-Who is better qualified? Mr. Regan has a four-year degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He worked for 18 years as a financial representative.
He was general manager of the US Women's Olympic Team in Torino, Italy and at numerous World Games. He certainly has a wealth of managerial experience.
Revenues have been increasing monthly since he took the position this past March.
He has added new dealers from New York City for vehicle registrations. He has saved the County $70,000 by having only one deputy and working every day himself.
But I believe the most compelling argument to support Regan comes from his own staff, most of whom do not belong to his party.
When the people with whom you work on a day-to-day basis, and who know the real facts the best, give their support, that speaks volumes.
Therefore, as a result, I will be supporting Gavin Regan for County Clerk. I would urge you folks to do likewise.
