Letter to the Editor

Did you know that County Clerk, Gavin Regan helped construct and then successfully administer a $2,000,000 budget during his tenure as the General Manager of the USA Women’s Olympic Hockey Team that played in Torino, Italy?

This fact, plus his degree in business and accounting, and over 20 years work experience in Banking and Finance are some of the reasons why Governor Cuomo named him County Clerk.

His honesty, fairness and good character also played a part in his selection.

For years he has given much time to coaching hundreds of boys and girls. In his role on the USA National Hockey Board, he has represented NY State and adjudicated many hockey disputes within the State. You have to be articulate, fair and a strong leader to be as effective as he has been.

He has served on the St. Mary’s Parish Council, he is a long standing member of Potsdam’s Recreation Commission and he was one of seven community members selected to help the Town of Potsdam write their Strategic Plan.

He also serves as “Mr. Mom” while his wife, Major Jeri Regan is on active duty. All these activities show his commitment to family, youth and community.

Gavin Regan has used all these experiences to improve the workings of the County Clerk’s office. His office’s revenue has increased from last year and his expenses have gone down.

He has increased the number of NY city cars dealers filing registrations with his office. He has cut down on needless overtime costs by returning the paperwork to the dealers within three days rather than over night. Not one dealer has complained about this still swift turnaround.

His “office on the move” now goes anywhere in the county that 10 or more people will gather to receive passports and this increase in service will help many schools and fraternal organizations.

Postage and paper are being saved through his used of long over-due electronic billing.

There are only two Democrats in his department, Mr. Regan and one other, yet he has managed to win over the majority of his colleagues because of his strong leadership, good ideas, and fairness to all the employees. That should tell you something about this gentleman.

We need an efficient office with a strong revenue stream. County Clerk Gavin Regan has proven he can do just that. He has earned our votes on Nov. 8. Vote for Gavin Regan.
