Even in this digital age, many of us would still agree with Will Rogers, when he said long ago: “All I know is what I read in the newspapers.”

And that may be the case with those who have never met hard-working incumbent County Clerk Gavin Regan and learned first hand about how he has been working hard with his staff to save money and streamline services for us citizens in St. Lawrence County.

Just ask his staff and two Republican mayors, for example, who work for and with Gavin daily, Hermon Mayor Cathy Streeter, his loyal and effective Deputy County Clerk who has many years of county service and Waddington Mayor Janet Otto-Cassada, who has worked in the County Department of Motor Vehicles as a vital part of the County Clerk’s office for many years.

When you meet, talk with, and get to know Gavin Regan, as a group of us did over the summer, you will be impressed with his financial and management expertise already at work in the County Clerk’s office, since Governor Andrew Cuomo appointed him less than six months ago.

With Gavin doing extra work himself as Clerk by wisely saving our tax money by having only one Deputy Clerk rather than two, by computerizing and combining certain billing to save paper and postage, by working closely with the big city folks and bringing in more car registration dollars every month to our coffers than any past month and year, he has saved expenses and brought in increased revenues.

Furthermore, through his thoughtful and creative planning, Gavin has developed a special Veterans I.D. card, which area businesses will honor as they honor our recent and long-time warriors. And Gavin has also developed a timesaving, travel-saving Passport On The Move program, taking the office to small groups of people set to travel.

These are just some of the facts and hard-works which have justified us as taxpayers and voters in returning Gavin Regan to the St. Lawrence Court House and continuing him in his County Clerk’s post for us on Tuesday, November 8, 2011.
