To the Editor:

On Monday, February 6, the Massena Lady Raiders basketball programs held a “Raiders Take on CF” night to promote educational awareness and raise funds to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This fundraiser netted over $1,700 to support the foundation.

An event like this isn’t possible without many volunteers. I would like to take this time to thank the many colleagues, friends and family members who assisted.

Specifically Shelyn Peets, Kim Vierno, Emily Currier, Rick Norris, Patricia Tharrett, Susan Macaulay, Tracey Adams, Mike Gomes, Darcy Labarge, and Jenn Bressard. Specific thanks to Massena Central School District for allowing us to host this as part of our games against the Ogdensburg Blue Devils. Thank you to Pat Brady and Gavin Reagan for supporting this endeavor. Much thanks to the custodial staff for setting the gym up and being so easy to work with. The entire Lady Raiders program was out in full force.

Much thanks to the 5/6th travel team, the modified, JV and varsity Lady Raiders players, coaches, program staff and parents; your support with the various aspects was outstanding. Specifically Justin Blanchard, Shane Cameron, Logan Norris, Jarred Shope, Sandy Sweet, Maggie Farrell, Justin Shope, George Trippany, Sophia Rusaw, and Pat Austin. Also thanks to Curt Wood who served as our announcer.

Thanks to the Raider cheerleaders and coaching staff Sandra Brault and Tommie Jo Villnave, it was great to have you cheering adding to the excitement and energy of the night.

Thank you to Shane Cameron and the Massena Basketball Association who are always behind the scenes providing support. We also are very grateful to the OFA Boys and Girls Basketball program. They have been incredibly supportive of our CF fundraising and bought t-shirts for all of their Varsity and JV players and coaches.

As part of the night there were a variety of activities to raise funds. Much thanks to A & J Embroidery for the high quality shirts. April Holder created the logo, ordered the shirts and printed them in a little over a week. She was excellent to work with and the shirts are always high quality. We also held a silent auction and the following individuals/businesses donated: Shelyn Prentice Peets/Simplicity, Kim Vierno/Kim’s Stuff for Sale, and Shane and Alena Cameron. Thank you all for your generosity!

On behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation specifically the Central New York Chapter, thank you to all who helped make this event a huge success.
