To the Editor:
When we moved to Canton in 1992, we thought it would be “for three to five years” – but it’s been 23! We quickly grew to love this community, and chose to stay and make it home for our family. I have worked hard to ensure Canton’s vitality and wonderful small-town character ever since.
When our three children were in school I served on the parent and shared decision-making committees. In the community I was on the Church and Community Program board, the Economic Development Steering Committee, and the Canton Chamber of Commerce. I was founding co-chair of the Remington Festival and continue to serve on the planning committee and worked for ten years at TAUNY. I am an active member of the UU Church and president of the GardenShare Board of Directors. Clearly, I am invested in this community!
Two years ago I was elected to bring my commitment to Canton to the village board. My first term as village trustee was challenging, rewarding, and fun. I learned a lot about municipal government and how our village operates, and about working closely with my fellow board members and village staff, representatives of the town, and interested residents to get things done. And we have gotten things done!
There is still important work ahead to ensure that Canton remains a vibrant, attractive, and safe community we can all proudly call home. In a second term I look forward to continuing our momentum, working with a strong and active board under the leadership of Mike Dalton. We will continue to work together and with the community to do what we think is best for Canton with the openness and integrity, you have come to expect.
