To the editor:
In response to “Border Patrol Road Blocks Infringe Our Rights,” I'd like to offer my own thoughts:
I moved away from the area, but I get stopped at one of these nearly every time I come for a summer visit. I'm always held up in the roadway and asked about my reason for being in the North Country.
What business is it of theirs? I was born here, and that should be enough. These roadblocks are clearly for more than immigration as they say.
When a retired American vet is the only person in the truck, why would my destination matter if all they're looking for is immigration?
I have not seen it this bad until recently. Is there some new danger in the North Country that wasn't there 10 years ago when I moved away? Unlikely.
So, call or write your representatives in congress if you've been detained unnecessarily. It's your right and obligation to do so if you feel your rights have been violated.
