To the Editor:
I was impressed when I read the Canton Democratic Party decided to nominate a Republican for the village mayor’s race.
What a great way to demonstrate how we should select our representatives by who they are and what they have done or can do for their communities, rather than blindly supporting a “party line” no matter what the issue.
I believe stereotyping individuals, then supporting them and making policy decisions by party line is one of the main reasons our country is so divided, and personally that’s why I have never voted that way in any election.
What happened does not give a wrong message. It demonstrates just how open-minded and strong our local Democrat party members can be and gives me more confidence in their future policy decisions.
