To the Editor:
I would like to sincerely thank Steve Yurgartis, Eleanor Hopke, and Steve Warr for their votes to abolish health insurance for future village trustees, and for the fact that they themselves will not accept it--except for Steve Warr who gave up his trustee salary in exchange for health insurance and he deserves our thanks.
On the other hand, two trustees voted against the whole idea--Ruth Garner and Ron Tischler. And both hung on to their insurance. Any surprise?
The “Old Guard” is still there battling any form of change.
For instance Steve Yurgartis suggested that the board “should lead by example.”
Mrs. Garner’s predictable response, “You mean that after all these years I have to set an example?”
No, Mrs. Garner, I guess you are right--you and Ron Tishler were either Mayor or Deputy Mayor, presiding over all of the past 5 year mess on a still incomplete dam project that has cost taxpayers dearly.
Yep, you set that as an example for all of us, and we do remember!
Okay - we now have a new majority on the Village Board, and the vote of the “Old Guard” is at last becoming irrelevant.
My best to the “New Guard,” and please keep up the good work!
Hopefully, this new attitude will also lead to progress in other areas - particularly improving village/town relations.
