Briana Hinkley was recently chosen as the Potsdam Rotary Club student of the month for October.

Hinkley is a student in the health careers program and attends Massena Central School.

She is the daughter of Sheena Smith and Gabe Hinkley.

Health careers is a two-year program for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the health field.

The first year explores careers, and students “will obtain knowledge basic to all health careers,” according to a press release.

Students who complete the year meet their high school health requirement.

Students receive a task aide/feeding assistant certificate at the end of the first year, as well as training in CPR and first aid.

The second year of the program, students gain the skills and knowledge to be eligible for the New York State Nurse’s Aide Certification and home health aide classroom instruction, the release said.

“During Briana’s time here, she has met the requirements for honor roll during every quarter. She has shown maturity in handling peer interactions. She is dependable and willing to assist myself or anyone in class. Her future plans include becoming a nurse practitioner. She plans on attending Clinton Community College in the fall. She will be an asset to any college and future health care facility,” said Anne Bonno, an instructor in the class.
