To the Editor:

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Potsdam Food Co-op hosted its annual open house and celebrated its 41-year anniversary. The festive day was filled with music, food, and fun for everyone. Mary Egan and Morgan were busy at the face painting table happily decorating faces of visiting children, and the store was busy with those eager to take advantage of the 10 percent discount on purchases offered for the entire day!

Many thanks to local and regional vendors who contributed to the day’s festivities held under the two big tents. Teresa Stone of Artemis Bakers of Potsdam served her wonderful cookies and whole grain muffins, St. Lawrence Brewing Company of Canton offered samples of their craft beers, and Megan Kent of Kent Family Farms in Lisbon showcased their beautiful organic fruits and vegetables. Kaneb Orchards of Massena donated their fresh apple cider, and samples of fresh cheese curd and aged artisan cheeses were provided by Meier’s Artisan Cheese of Fort Covington. Prosper’s Farmstead Creamery from North Lawrence donated their delicious Maple Yogurt that made a perfect accompaniment to muesli cereal from Mu Mu Muesli of Sharon Springs, N.Y.

We are also grateful to the local musicians who provided the wonderful sounds that filled the day and to Beth Robinson who organized the music program. The musical talents of the members of Animal Crackers, Dan Sullivan-Catlin & Friends, and Crescent Street Jam were very much enjoyed by all who attended.

A special thank you to our neighbors at the Christian Science Church for allowing us to use their lawn again this year for this annual community celebration, and to our working-owners, staff members, and members of our board of directors who assisted in the various aspects of the open house. We appreciate their help and all they did to make this day a wonderful celebration.
