To the editor:
On behalf of the Robert J Freego Amvets Post 282, a sincere thank you to all the area residents that took the time this year to help support our post functions that enable us to assist local veteran’s needs.
Our post is young and growing, and community support is important for all area organizations that rely on this support.
As a veteran’s organization, the desire to work for our local veterans in need and help them when possible is an important part of our mission statement.
Recently, we started hosting a spaghetti dinner once a month that has been well attended and favorably received.
We are pleased at the response and look forward to more of these dinners until spring. Over the summer we had classic car cruise-ins and karaoke nights to add to our means of support. Thank you to all that supported these.
While many of us are blessed with good fortunes and family during the holidays, many are not. Many veterans in our community spend the holidays alone and often in poor financial situations. Please take time to show your appreciation and gratitude to a veteran you know that may be in need.
If you are not able to reach out and help, guide them to a local veteran’s agency or organization so they may find comfort and support to help them through this emotional time of year.
A small gesture of kindness on your part may be a huge gesture to someone else.
Thanks again for a rewarding year,
Jerry Deon
